Dr. Andres Moreno Estrada Mexico
Biography

Dr. Andrés Moreno is a physician and human population geneticist at Cinvestav, Mexico City.

Positions

  • His research has transformed the understanding of genetic diversity in Mexico and Latin America, particularly in Indigenous and historically underrepresented populations.
  • His landmark 2014 Science study revealed the genetic structure of Mexico and its biomedical implications.
  • He has since expanded this work across Latin America, Oceania, and Polynesia, with publications in Science, Nature, PNAS, Nature Medicine, and Cell, among others.
  • He leads the Mexican Biobank project, the first nationwide genomic catalog of Mexican variation linked to biomedical traits, featured on the covers of Nature (2023) and Nature Medicine (2026).
  • He has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, with over 32,000 citations, and trained more than 25 researchers internationally.
  • He is the recipient of the George Rosenkranz Prize for Health Care Research in Developing Countries and has served on international advisory boards for the UK Biobank, the GWAS Catalog, and the Wellcome Trust.
