• Professor Zilfalil Bin Alwi is a member of the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Genomics.
• He is trained as a paediatrician and clinical geneticist.
• He holds an MBBS, MMed (Paediatrics), MSc (Medical Genetics), and PhD (Pharmacogenetics).
• With decades of experience in medical genetics, he has made significant contributions to the study of rare diseases among the Malay population and has been actively involved in several international organisations and initiatives, including the Human Variome Project (HVP), Global Globin Network (GGN), Human Genome Organisation (HUGO), and Asia Pacific Society of Human Genetics (APSHG).
• In recognition of his contributions to human genetics and thalassaemia, he was appointed UNESCO Chair on Human Genetics of Thalassaemia in 2022.
